National Correctional Consciousness Week

Prisons and jails in the Philippines celebrated the National Correctional Consciousness Week (NACOCOW) last October 24 to 30, 2011 with various activities at correctional facilities all over the country.

For Paranaque City Jail, the kick-off activity was the live one hour talk show over radio station DWDD on October 20 hosted by broadcaster Ben Figura. This was also broadcast via live streaming on the internet.

Guests at the show included Warden Moreno of the male dorm, Warden Abueva of the female dorm, Inmates Welfare and Development Officers Mangawit, Jasojaso and de Jesus and Ramon Yap, president of the Service Providers Association. The guests expounded on the current state of Paranaque City Jail and the improvements accomplished over the years. Bro. Yap discussed the role of the service providers in helping jail management in the areas of values transformation of both inmates and jail staff through God’s word. Service providers also assist in practical areas such as medical missions, livelihood training and paralegal services.

Tribute to a Faithful Worker

“Well done, good and faithful servant!” (Matthew 25:21). These are the words that welcomed Sis. Aida Jacobe when she went to meet the Lord on Sunday, September 25, 2011. For indeed, Sis. Aida was a faithful servant of God, serving in various ministries at Lighthouse Christian Community: Prison Ministry, Medical Missions and Intercessory Prayer Group, to name a few.

Until a year ago, when she was diagnosed with acute leukemia, she faithfully ministered to female inmates at the Paranaque City Jail. She has been my very active partner at Paranaque City Jail for many years. We surely miss you Sis. Aida …… until we meet again.
