Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. (Romans 12:11)
Many believers start out fiery hot for God. Early on, they make radical choices of obedience and surrender. They make serious commitments of time, talents and treasures. But for many, this zeal, this passion for God, begins to wane over time until everything is but a memory of an ancient time in a believer’s life when he or she was “on fire” for God.
The apostle Paul knew of such tendency even among the early believers. So he admonished them in this text to maintain their fire for God.
How about you? If a “spiritual thermometer” were to be used on you today, how hot are you for God still? Or have the years taken its toll on your once spiritual fervor? All is not lost. Today, you can let Jesus rekindle that fire you once had for Him. Open up your heart and let Him touch you anew!
